PILIPINAS, TARA NA! CAMPAIGN

THE Department of Tourism has launched the first of its three "Pilipinas, Tara Na!" songs and music videos featuring the country’s numerous tourist attractions and recorded for free by 57 of the country’s leading musical artists and entertainment personalities, a mix of established and up-and-coming stars. The second and third volumes are now being edited for release in the next few weeks.

Cognizant of the success and popularity achieved by DOT’s Biyahe Tayo! song and music video composed in 2004 and participated in by 21 leading Filipino artists, Tourism Secretary Alberto Lim accepted the offer of the team that created Biyahe Tayo! to do an updated and expanded version of the song for the department’s domestic tourism program, this time using the program’s campaign title, Pilipinas, Tara Na!

The team is composed of Rene Nieva, Perceptions chairman, who did the lyrics; Rico Blanco and Mike and Angelo Villegas, who provided the music; and Noel Nieva, Perceptions president, who directed and edited the music video.

Because the country had so many offerings for tourists – scenic and historical places, fun activities, food specialties, colorful festivals, etc. – many were left out in the original song. Rene Nieva added as many of these old highlights and several new attractions as he could and ended up with enough material for three songs.

This enabled the team to invite more artists who wanted to participate in the first one but could no longer be accommodated. Some of the artists in the original music video also joined in singing the new versions.
