FLASH FLOODS HIT METRO CEBU

Heavy rains spawned flash floods in most parts of metro Cebu on Tuesday morning. In Mandaue City, search and rescue personnel were looking for a child who went missing because of the floods that hit Barangay Tipolo, authorities said.

Classes in several schools were suspended across metro Cebu because of the floods. Students of Basak Elementary School and Tipolo Elementary School in Mandaue City were sent home as the water reached knee-high.

City officials deployed trucks to take the children home. Hundreds of workers, meanwhile, were stranded on the streets. Some had to use improvised boats to go to work. Several vehicles that tried to make their way out of flooded areas were also stranded. Floodwaters reached chest-level in Colon area, residents said.

Some residents of Barangay Subangdako in Mandaue were trapped inside their houses because of the flood. Police and soldiers were deployed to help in rescue operations.
