SPREAD KINDNESS ONLINE

This holiday season, Yahoo! is encouraging people to do random acts of kindness and go online to create a virtual ripple of kindness. As part of the How Good Grows campaign, Yahoo! has set up the “Ripples of Kindness” website. People can log on to the site and document their charitable acts. This way, they can inspire others to do the same.

Yahoo! Philippines has tapped 2009 CNN Hero of the Year Efren Peñaflorida and the Dynamic Teen Company to lead the campaign in the country. To make kindness “viral,” Peñaflorida and his team will be documenting their good deeds on the Yahoo! Ripples of Kindness microsite using their Y! Mail account, KuyaEf_and_DTC@yahoo.com. People can follow Efren’s kindness activities at http://kindness.yahoo.com/Ju-kz/1knd-dw.

“We are happy to join hands with Yahoo! for this campaign. I am happy to encourage people from all walks of life to do small acts of kindness and inspire greatness. Together with the Dynamic Teen Company, I have a mission to make small but significant difference in lives of others. Collectively we can make the positive change our world needs,” said Peñaflorida, “You do not need a celebrity status or have a position in Congress to touch the lives of others and this campaign shares that sentiment.”

The site enables people to share their status messages across other social networks such as Yahoo! Updates, Facebook, and Twitter. Filipinos can watch their ripple of kindness grow on the site, as they inspire others to do the same. Ideas on what constitutes a random act of kindness include: donating clothes, feeding street children, or paying transportation fares for strangers. The kind acts don’t need to be grand—they just need to come from the heart.

“Each year Yahoo! helps raise awareness about the importance of year-end giving. This year, we are proud to have Efren Peñaflorida and the Dynamic Teen Company as partners for the Yahoo! Ripples of Kindness campaign. Efren is a perfect example of how a regular person can make a big difference in the lives of others through small acts of generosity and, with him onboard, we hope to inspire the same from other Filipinos,” explained Jack Madrid, Yahoo! Philippines Country Manager.
