A LONG WEEKEND

Malacañang has declared Aug. 30 a regular holiday so the nation could observe the feast of Ramadan or Eid’l Fitr.

President Aquino issued Proclamation no. 234 setting the holiday in keeping with Republic Act no. 9177, which has declared Eid’L Fitr as a regular holiday throughout the country.

Eid’l Fitr is celebrated by the Muslim world for three days after the end of the month of fasting.

The holiday, which will fall on Tuesday, was declared by the Palace “to promote cultural understanding and integration” and to allow the nation “to join (its) Muslim brothers and sisters in the observance and celebration of Eid’l Fitr.”

It’s going to be a long weekend for that week because Aug. 29, National Heroes’ Day, is a regular holiday as well.
