Today marks the 132nd anniversary of Cebu's Grand Old Man, the late president Sergio Osmeña Sr. The whole of Cebu will go on holiday to celebrate his birthday anniversary. A mass, program, and a tribute to his marker at the corner of Lapu-lapu St. and Osmeña Blvd. will be held today.
Don Sergio began his 42-long career in public service in 1904. He served as Cebu's youngest governor at 25, and four years later became the speaker of the First Philippine Assemble. He assumed the presidency in August 1, 1944 when president Manuel Quezon died. He was the fourth president (1944-1946) of the Commonwealth of the Philippines.
