University of Cebu President Atty. Augusto W. Go was conferred the honor Knights in the Pontifical Order of St. Sylvester together with Dr. Manuel Lim, Lino Francisco Lebron and businessman Leo Liu and his wife Dame Norma Lim Liu, who was also cited for her support of various archdiocesan programs.
The Pontifical Equestrian Order of Pope St. Sylvester is sometimes referred to as the Sylvestrine Order or the Pontifical Order of Pope St. Sylvester. It is one of five Orders of Knighthood awarded directly by the Pope as Supreme Pontiff and head of the Catholic Church and as the Head of State of Vatican City.
The said honor is given to Roman Catholic laymen who are actively involved in the life of the Church, particularly as exemplified in the exercise of their professional duties and mastership of the different arts.
During the ceremony, the knight recipients were dressed in a black uniform with gold embroidery and a broad ribbon with black and red stripes. Each received a gold medal and carried a gold-tipped sword.
Meanwhile, Cardinal Vidal in an interview with the press explained that the honor was created by the Pope to celebrate his jubilee in Rome. “This was also done in honor of St. Sylvester. The Pope awards this honor to certain individuals for outstanding work involved with peace in the world,” said Vidal.
